Township Retail Program
Building Financial Identities and Market Connectivity Empowering Spaza Shops, Tuckshops and Informal Township Retailers
The Township Retail Program addresses one of the most entrenched challenges in South Africa’s township economy: The exclusion of small informal retailers from modern retail supply chains and formal financial systems.

TCS has developed a specialized R120 million credit facility to break this cycle and integrate them into formal supply chains.
Two Cent Solutions provides Turnkey growth solution built on three integrated pillars
Working Capital Financing
Providing small retailers with flexible working capital to restock inventory, expand product categories, and respond to seasonal demand fluctuations.
Distribution Integration
Connecting shops to bulk-buying networks and wholesale supply chains through partners like ATP Distribution and Pride Milling, ensuring they access goods at competitive prices and consistent quality.
Digital Enablement and Data Capture
Deploying POS systems through our partner Vibe Africa to capture real-time sales and cash flow data, providing both operational visibility and the foundational data needed to build a credit profile.
To amplify impact, TCS collaborates closely with the South African Spaza and Tuckshop Association (SASTA) and Proudly Ekasi to build cooperative purchasing groups, standardize pricing, and negotiate collective agreements with suppliers and FMCG brands.
Market Access and Networking Outcomes
- Aggregates isolated spaza shops into a coordinated township retail network
- Enables small shops to negotiate directly with FMCG suppliers and secure better pricing and terms
- Creates a digital financial footprint for each enterprise, enabling access to future bank finance.
- Positions township retailers to graduate into franchised or branded convenience outlets over time.
